The Power of the BPS Technology Platform

There are several key engines and powerful functions built into the BPS Technology Platform. All of these are core to the underlying architecture of BPS Audit, BPS Compliance, BPS OpRisk and BPS Issues and Action Tracking.

Workflow and Business Rules Engines

BPS has embedded workflow and business rules engines and has integrated these with all system artifacts, including action plans, issues, risks, controls, projects, and more. This makes it easy to define escalation paths, delegation paths, and notifications for activities around assessments or audit plans. Workflow and Business Rules engines, in concert, can be used to achieve flexible, configurable business processes.

User-defined fields

BPS has made it possible for users to define as many fields as required to use with assessments, loss data collection, and action plans or other activities. Fields of type text, value, list, checkbox, option button, date, and hierarchy are supported. Fields may be specified as mandatory or optional. User-defined fields may also be used in ad hoc reporting without customization.

Organizational Modeling Engine

This powerful concept in BPS allows users to create and manage many hierarchical structures to be used for the classification of artifacts. Users might choose to model a business-unit hierarchy as well as a regional and process hierarchy. Users might then tag an action plan by business unit and region and so on. Any number of many-to-many relationships can be defined, created and version controlled.  This provides a navigational structure in the application as well as a powerful reporting function. This is a flexible way of supporting multiple taxonomies within a large global organization.

Cross-Referencing Engine

The platform consists of numerous artifacts, each of which is designed consistently and each of which can be related to one another through a sophisticated cross-referencing engine. For example, action plans can be cross-referenced to issues, to projects, to risks, to controls, and to each other. This cross-referencing capability results in a network of related artifacts, providing additional layers of meaning to a risk-centric organization.

Document Management System

BPS comes with a full document management system (DMS) that provides storage, versioning, tracking, metadata, security, and retrieval capabilities for all types of electronic documents. BPS also comes with BPS Express, an Office plug-in that allows for the utilization of BPS functionality within Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. Documents can be modified in an offline environment and re-uploaded to the system (checked in) when the user is back online.
